Opposition's Response to Police Action

The opposition has ramped up its protests regarding the alleged police action against students during the 'Parliament March' on July 20. Congress leader Pawan Khera stated on Monday that the issue will continue to be raised in Parliament until Union Home Minister Amit Shah addresses the concerns surrounding this incident. He also welcomed the Supreme Court's remark that police excesses cannot be justified merely because a protest is taking place.

Khera's Statements on Police Accountability

Speaking to reporters, Khera emphasized that their demand for accountability regarding the police's actions against student protesters on July 20 will persist until the Home Minister responds. He expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for its comments on the matter. Khera questioned the identity of the individuals in plain clothes who mistreated women during the protests, asking if they were RSS goons. He insisted that the Delhi police must take responsibility for these actions, highlighting the inappropriate use of pellet guns against students.

Criticism of Government's Task Force on Exam Reforms

Earlier, Khera criticized the central government for forming a high-powered task force on examination reforms led by technology expert Nandan Nilekani. He accused the BJP-led government of relying on individuals associated with Congress, stating that they cannot function without Congress's influence. Khera pointed out that many of their chief ministers have ties to Congress, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot operate without referencing Congress figures.

Concerns Over Legislative Measures

Congress MP Imran Masood also raised concerns regarding the government's decision to introduce the 'Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026'. He argued that the existing laws were not properly enforced. Masood remarked that previous laws had been established but were ineffective, questioning why they were not implemented. He criticized the government for failing to file charges against the main accused, who has since been acquitted. Masood urged for action rather than mere discussions, emphasizing the need for tangible results.
