Disruptions in Lok Sabha Due to Opposition Protests

On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha faced repeated interruptions due to significant uproar from opposition parties. Opposition members were protesting against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's remarks, a controversy surrounding former Army Chief M.M. Naravane's book, and the suspension of eight of their colleagues. As the session commenced, opposition members approached the Speaker while chanting slogans. Amidst the chaos, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal attempted to deliver his statement, but the uproar persisted, leading to the adjournment of the house until 5 PM.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed strong discontent regarding the behavior of opposition MPs. He stated that breaking the decorum and traditions of the house is detrimental to democracy. He advised opposition leaders that protests should be conducted with rules and reasoning, rather than through shouting slogans and displaying banners. The Speaker emphasized that senior leaders must adhere to the house's regulations, yet the disruptions continued, preventing the smooth conduct of question hour and other essential proceedings.
