Opposition Disrupts Lok Sabha Over Bihar Voter List Review
Lok Sabha Session Disrupted by Opposition Protests
New Delhi. On Wednesday, members of opposition parties created a ruckus in the Lok Sabha regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, leading to the suspension of the session shortly after it began, until noon.
As the third day of the monsoon session commenced, opposition members immediately started protesting. They gathered near the Speaker's podium, chanting slogans and displaying placards with anti-SIR messages.
The protesting MPs demanded discussions on various topics, including the SIR in Bihar, the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the halt of Operation Sindoor, and claims of mediation by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Amid the chaos, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw managed to respond to some supplementary questions during the question hour. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged the opposition members to return to their seats and allow the proceedings to continue.
He reminded them, “Your conduct and behavior within the Parliament and its premises should be dignified. The public has sent you here to voice their concerns, challenges, and issues related to the nation and its policies.”
Birla also warned that decisive action would be taken against MPs who brought placards into the house. As the uproar persisted, he announced the suspension of the session at around 11:10 AM until noon.
