Opposition Demands Action in Odisha Tribal Rape Case
Call for Arrest in Disturbing Case
In Koraput district, Odisha, the opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has urged the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) to instruct relevant authorities to arrest the accused in a case involving the rape of a tribal girl.
A delegation from the party submitted a memorandum to the NCST through their regional office in Bhubaneswar, highlighting that a case has been registered at the women's police station in Jaipur concerning the alleged assault on the minor.
According to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, the accused has been identified as the son of a local legislator's representative. A BJD leader referenced the complaint, stating, 'The accused raped the girl for two years under the pretense of marriage. They first met at a wedding ceremony. The situation came to light when it was discovered that the girl is five months pregnant.'
