Opposition Alliance INDIA to Hold Crucial Meeting in New Delhi Following Election Setbacks

Significant Meeting of the INDIA Alliance

In the wake of recent assembly election losses, the opposition coalition known as 'INDIA' is set to convene an important meeting at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on Monday. Approximately 23 political parties are expected to participate, focusing on strategies to strengthen the alliance, demonstrate unity, and resolve internal differences. However, significant developments regarding Tamil Nadu's political landscape and the dynamics of the opposition coalition have emerged ahead of this meeting.

According to sources, it remains uncertain whether the TVK party will attend the gathering at the Constitution Club. A decision regarding the invitation for the party, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, is anticipated later today.

TVK's Participation in Question

The Congress party, an ally of TVK in Tamil Nadu, has indicated that parties without MPs are typically not invited to such meetings. The INDIA alliance aims to reassess its strategies following the recent electoral defeat, showcasing solidarity and addressing any disagreements.

Currently, TVK does not have any MPs. Following the assembly election results, the party proposed to allocate its only vacant Rajya Sabha seat to the Congress to bolster the alliance.

Key Leaders Expected to Attend

This meeting at the Constitution Club will see the participation of several prominent opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge from Congress, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Akhilesh Yadav from the Samajwadi Party, and Tejashwi Yadav from the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

On the other hand, the Uddhav faction of Shiv Sena will not be represented in person at the INDIA meeting in Delhi, although Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, and Sanjay Raut are expected to join via video conferencing. Supriya Sule from the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) will attend the meeting in Delhi. However, the DMK, which was previously allied with Congress in Tamil Nadu, has decided not to participate.

DMK's Withdrawal from the Meeting

The DMK's decision to skip this crucial meeting stems from the electoral defeat in Tamil Nadu. After the loss, when Congress allied with Vijay's TVK to form a coalition government in the state, the DMK distanced itself from the INDIA alliance. Accusing its former ally of 'betrayal' and 'backstabbing,' the DMK has vowed not to attend any future meetings of the INDIA coalition.
