Operation Sindhu: 275 Evacuees Return to India Amid Middle East Tensions

Successful Evacuation from Iran

New Delhi: On Thursday, a total of 275 individuals, comprising 272 Indian citizens and three from Nepal, safely returned to New Delhi from Mashhad, Iran, as part of the Indian government's ongoing Operation Sindhu.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced this development, noting that the total number of repatriated citizens from Iran has now reached 3,426 amidst the rising tensions in the Middle East.

As evacuees set foot on Indian soil, emotions ran high, with many expressing their relief.

One Indian national shared his gratitude, stating, "We were in Mashhad. My family of five and I are extremely thankful to the Indian Embassy and the government for ensuring our safe return. They did not abandon us in a foreign land. No other nation has provided such support to its citizens."

He recounted how embassy officials waited and searched for missing passengers prior to departure.

"A few individuals were unaccounted for, so the embassy staff extended their wait by two hours to locate them. There is no government like ours," he remarked.

Another evacuee expressed, "I am sincerely grateful to the Indian government and the Embassy. Since the conflict began in Tehran, they have maintained contact with every Indian, advising us on how to navigate the situation and outlining their evacuation plans."

"I stand here filled with gratitude for the Indian Embassy and the Government of India for bringing us back home. I will always be thankful," another returnee echoed, reflecting the collective appreciation among those evacuated.

"We are profoundly thankful for their care and concern for their fellow citizens, recognizing that we were far from home and in distress," another evacuee stated.

Just a day prior, another flight had brought back 296 Indians and four Nepalese nationals from Mashhad.

As tensions persist in the region, Operation Sindhu, which is nearing its conclusion in Iran, continues to serve as a vital lifeline for many stranded citizens.
