Ongoing Vigilance Required Against Jihadi Activities in Assam

In Assam, the ongoing threat of Jihadi activities necessitates constant vigilance from police and security forces. Despite successful interventions against groups like JMB and Ansar Bangla Team, the risk remains high as these organizations continue to attempt infiltration. The Assam Government has recently banned jihadi literature to curb radicalization, but challenges persist due to the vast availability of such content online. Authorities are committed to monitoring cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies and ensure public safety.

Ongoing Vigilance Required Against Jihadi Activities in Assam

Continuous Efforts Needed to Combat Jihadi Threats

Guwahati, Dec 19: Addressing the issue of Jihadi activities necessitates persistent efforts from law enforcement and security agencies, as they must remain vigilant at all times.

According to security sources, groups like JMB and Ansar Bangla Team, which are based in Bangladesh, have made multiple attempts to establish a presence in Assam. However, these efforts have been thwarted by police and security forces, resulting in the arrest of several individuals, including Bangladeshi nationals.

Despite these successes, the threat persists, as these groups are likely to continue their attempts to infiltrate Assam. Authorities must stay alert to counter any initiatives from these extremist and terrorist organizations, especially given the rising activities of fundamentalist groups in Bangladesh, which heightens the risk.

Moreover, these extremist factions are increasingly utilizing the internet to radicalize young people, which poses a significant concern. Jihadi literature is readily accessible online, and these groups aim to influence youth through digital platforms.

In response, the Assam Government has recently enacted a ban on jihadi literature, which security sources believe will help mitigate the spread of such materials. This ban will facilitate law enforcement in apprehending individuals found in possession of such literature. Authorities are closely monitoring online activities, and anyone disseminating jihadi content can face legal action. Even individuals possessing leaflets promoting radical ideologies may be subject to arrest.

Other states across the country have also implemented similar bans. However, sources acknowledge the challenge of monitoring every instance of such literature available online, as much of it originates from outside the country.
