Ongoing Search for Missing Mother of Savannah Guthrie After Abduction
Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie
Eight weeks have passed since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her Tucson residence, and new information about the case continues to surface. The 84-year-old was last seen on January 31, and authorities have yet to identify any suspects, keeping the investigation active.
During her show Drop Dead Serious, journalist Ashleigh Banfield expressed her shock over a particular detail regarding the crime scene. She remarked, "One detail that truly shocked me was that the suspect utilized Nancy's flower pots in this incident." Banfield elaborated that the pots, which Nancy likely cherished and tended to, were reportedly used to keep a screen door and a back gate open. "It's intriguing to ponder why they needed to prop those doors open," she questioned, addressing the culprits.
Guthrie's family initially speculated that she might have experienced a medical emergency during the night, leading them to believe that paramedics had entered through the back doors, which were found propped open. Savannah shared with co-anchor Hoda Kotb that they thought emergency responders might have taken her mother away on a stretcher. However, the presence of her phone and purse raised doubts about this theory. "It just didn't add up," she stated, noting her mother's limited mobility made it improbable for her to leave the house independently.
Additional signs at the scene, such as open doors, blood on the front step, and a missing security camera, have intensified the family's concerns. The investigation is being conducted by both the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
