Ongoing Search for Missing 84-Year-Old Nancy Guthrie Intensifies
Investigation into Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie from the TODAY show, is still ongoing more than 120 days after she disappeared from her home in Tucson. Authorities have made a renewed appeal to the public for help. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has introduced a new portal for evidence submission and is encouraging local residents to share any video footage that might assist in the investigation. They have labeled the request as urgent and continue to classify Guthrie as a 'missing endangered adult,' indicating that they are actively following leads.
In their latest appeal, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department stated, 'We urgently need your help in locating Nancy Guthrie, who was last seen on January 31, 2026, at her home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue.' While few details about a suspect or motive have been disclosed, investigators previously released images from doorbell cameras showing a masked individual with a backpack, who appeared to be armed near Guthrie’s residence. Additionally, it was revealed that Guthrie’s pacemaker disconnected from her Apple Watch shortly after she was last seen on February 1.
Further evidence has complicated the case. Investigators confirmed that blood droplets belonging to Guthrie were found on her front stoop, and forensic testing on DNA and hair samples is still underway. Following her disappearance, ransom notes demanding Bitcoin were sent to media outlets, although it remains unclear if these messages are linked to her case.
Forensic investigator Barbara Butcher has shared her perspective on the situation, suggesting that the perpetrator may have been someone familiar with Guthrie’s situation. 'It’s astonishing that someone would target a woman of her age. I suspect that someone local, perhaps a handyman or service worker, discovered that Mrs. Guthrie was Savannah Guthrie’s mother and thought, 'She must be wealthy,'' Butcher explained to a news outlet.
While investigators have excluded Guthrie’s three children and their spouses as suspects, no one has been publicly identified as a suspect in the case. The family is also offering a significant reward for any information that could lead to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return as the search continues.
