Omar Abdullah's Reaction to BJP's Legal Notice

On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed that receiving a legal notice from the BJP felt like a love letter, indicating that the party views him as a significant political figure that cannot be overlooked. This statement followed the BJP's issuance of a legal notice to Abdullah after he accused the party of attempting to bribe National Conference legislators to topple his government.

In response to the notice, which threatened a defamation lawsuit of ₹100 crores if he failed to prove his allegations or publicly apologize, Abdullah remarked that he received a letter from a lawyer in electronic form. He considers it a considerable honor, stating that he is the only politician in Jammu and Kashmir to receive such a 'love letter' from the BJP. He believes this signifies his political strength in the region.

Abdullah expressed his expectation that the BJP would respond to his political statements in a political manner, rather than resorting to legal action. He criticized the party for choosing this route, suggesting it reflects their approach to political battles, often hiding behind the courts. He noted that he could have made similar statements in the assembly, leveraging the privileges that cannot be challenged outside of it, but chose not to.

The Chief Minister further accused BJP leaders of repeatedly making defamatory statements against the National Conference and its leadership in recent months. He mentioned that one particular leader has consistently leveled baseless accusations against them, but they are addressing these politically. Abdullah indicated that they are initiating the process of sending legal notices to this specific BJP leader and others, and he is curious to see how this unfolds.
