Strict Measures for Monsoon Preparedness


Bhubaneswar: The Urban Development Minister of Odisha, Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, has issued a stern warning to officials regarding the potential for waterlogging in urban areas during the monsoon season. During a meeting aimed at assessing the readiness of all 115 civic bodies in the state, he stated that any negligence leading to waterlogging would result in strict accountability.


He emphasized that ensuring the safety and convenience of residents during the monsoon is of utmost importance.


Usha Padhee, the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, urged civic bodies to adhere closely to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and assured them of full support as needed.


She encouraged officials to be proactive and prepared to tackle any challenges that may arise.


Earlier in the day, Mahapatra inspected the drainage conditions in Bhubaneswar, visiting several areas prone to waterlogging, including the ISKCON temple site, Kalinga Studio Square, Rajiv Nagar, Bhoi Nagar, and Bomikhal.


He instructed the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to deploy additional personnel and machinery to expedite the desilting and clearing of drains.


Mahapatra reiterated that efforts are underway to prevent any waterlogging this monsoon season.


Regarding the waterlogging issue near the ISKCON temple, he mentioned, "We are working on creating an alternative route to channel rainwater into another drain."
