Odisha's Sambalpur District Adjusts Work Hours Amidst Scorching Heatwave


In response to the extreme heat, the Odisha government has mandated that offices in Sambalpur district will now operate in the early morning hours starting Thursday. This decision was communicated through an official order from the district collector.


All state government offices, along with revenue and executive magistrate courts, will be open from 7 AM to 1 PM without a lunch break until June 15, 2025. Typically, these offices function from 10 AM to 5 PM, which includes a lunch break.


The district collector has instructed all personnel to report to their offices during these revised morning hours.


Sambalpur, located in western Odisha, has been facing hot and humid weather, with temperatures soaring to 40 degrees Celsius on April 6 and 7.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded maximum temperatures of 40.6 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius in Sambalpur on April 6 and 7, respectively.


Additionally, Boudh town in the state reported a high of 42 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
