Odisha's Industrial Growth: CM Majhi Unveils Ambitious Plans for the Future
Significant Industrial Advancements in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the remarkable strides made in the state's industrial sector over the past year, claiming that the growth has surpassed the cumulative progress of the last five years through dedicated and strategic efforts.
In a meeting with key industry figures, including MSME and women entrepreneurs, as well as leaders from the startup community, CM Majhi reflected on the first anniversary of his administration, stating, "A year ago, the citizens of Odisha entrusted us with the responsibility to create a future that is inclusive, aspirational, and transformative. Today, we take pride in our achievements and reaffirm our commitment to the path ahead."
He expressed gratitude to the business leaders for their partnership in Odisha's development narrative.
Highlighting the government's focus on job creation, he encouraged industry leaders to grow alongside Odisha and contribute to its vision of becoming an industrial powerhouse.
CM Majhi noted that over 150 memorandums of understanding were signed during the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave last year, which generated an investment intent of Rs 16.7 lakh crore and the potential to create over 12.9 lakh jobs, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.
He also mentioned that in the past year, 206 large-scale projects received approval, nearly doubling the average from the previous five years.
These projects represent an investment exceeding Rs 4.5 lakh crore and are expected to create nearly 2.9 lakh jobs.
Since the Utkarsha Odisha initiative, 56 projects have commenced groundbreaking and inauguration, collectively valued at over Rs 1.78 lakh crore, with a job creation potential of 1.1 lakh positions. "These figures reflect not just our speed but also our scale and substance," CM Majhi remarked.
The projects span 20 diverse sectors, including traditional industries like mining and metallurgy, as well as emerging fields such as chemicals, food processing, textiles, renewable energy, electronics, and tourism.
The Chief Minister asserted that Odisha is evolving beyond being merely a hub for minerals and metals, rapidly transforming into a diversified industrial powerhouse.
Looking forward, he outlined four key priorities for the coming year: introducing new policies to unlock emerging sectors and enhance global competitiveness, expanding the land bank and industrial infrastructure to meet future demands, revamping the single-window system and developing a modern project tracking platform, and simplifying regulations to ensure faster approvals and seamless coordination.
He emphasized that the next four years will be crucial in laying the groundwork for a prosperous Odisha by 2036.
CM Majhi concluded by stating that the state will build on its leadership in mining, metals, and green chemicals, with strong backing from partners such as IOCL, JSW, JSPL, Tata Steel, AMNS, Vedanta, Hindalco, and Adani, while also enhancing port-based industrialization through new terminals and container handling capacities along the Paradip-Dhamra-Gopalpur corridor.
