Odisha's Health Advisory Ahead of Rath Yatra: What You Need to Know

Health Advisory for Rath Yatra in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: With the total number of Covid-19 cases in Odisha reaching 38, Amarendra Nath Mohanty, the director of state health services, has urged individuals exhibiting symptoms of the virus to refrain from attending the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri. He stated, “Those with Covid-like symptoms should stay away from Puri during the festival. They can enjoy the celebrations via television and other media.”
As of June 6, 2025, health officials reported that 38 positive cases were identified from 755 samples tested, with a low test positivity rate of 1 to 1.5 percent. Mohanty emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant despite the low numbers, noting that nine patients have recovered while others are stable and isolating at home.
In light of the increasing cases, the state government has intensified monitoring and containment measures across various districts. Additionally, a high-level committee has been established to oversee all arrangements for the Rath Yatra in Puri. This committee, led by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, includes key ministers such as Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, and Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena. Manas Ranjan Barik, Secretary of the Law Department, will serve as the committee's convenor.
