Significant Progress in Odisha's School Education


Bhubaneswar: Odisha has made remarkable strides in its educational framework, now ranking fifth nationally according to the Performance Grading Index (PGI-2.0) for the years 2019-2020 to 2023-2024, as reported by officials on Thursday. Previously, the state held the 14th position in 2019-2020.


The PGI 2.0 assesses school education based on 73 indicators categorized into Outcomes and Governance & Management. Naveen Patnaik, the BJD president and Leader of the Opposition, expressed his pride on X, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Odisha has achieved the 5th rank in the national School Grading System, as per the PGI-2.0 Report released by the Government of India. With a score of 595.6, we have improved from 14th place in 2019 and received the PRACHESTA-3 grade for the academic year 2023-24.”


Patnaik further emphasized the impact of the #5T initiative, which has transformed around 7,000 schools, fostering new aspirations and opportunities for students. He stated, “We firmly believe that a #NewOdisha will emerge by empowering every child through education. It is gratifying to see a solid foundation in government school education that enables students to excel. I extend my gratitude to all teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff for their significant contributions to this transformation.” The report from the Ministry of Education also highlights that Odisha excelled in the ‘access’ domain, achieving the highest grade with a score between 941 and 1000.
