Odisha's Education System Soars: From 14th to 5th in National Rankings!

Significant Progress in Odisha's Education Sector
Bhubaneswar: Odisha has made remarkable strides in its educational framework, achieving the 5th position nationally according to the Performance Grading Index (PGI-2.0) for the period from 2019-20 to 2023-2024, as reported by officials on Thursday.
Previously, the state was ranked 14th in the 2019-2020 assessment.
The PGI 2.0 assesses school education based on 73 indicators categorized into Outcomes and Governance & Management.
Naveen Patnaik, president of the BJD, shared on X: “I am pleased to announce that #Odisha has secured the 5th rank in the national School Grading System, as per the Performance Grading Index (PGI-2.0) Report released by the Government of India. Odisha achieved a score of 595.6 and received the PRACHESTA-3 grade for the academic year 2023-24, improving from 14th place in 2019. The PGI 2.0 evaluates school education through 73 indicators across two categories: Outcomes and Governance & Management.”
Naveen Patnaik served as the chief minister of Odisha from 2000 until 2024 and is currently the Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly following the BJD's defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections.
He stated, “Through our #5T initiative, we have transformed around 7,000 schools to inspire new aspirations and broaden horizons for students. We have always believed that a #NewOdisha would be built by empowering every child through education. I am delighted that the strong foundation for government school education is enabling students to excel. I extend my gratitude to all teachers, parents, administrators, and support staff for this significant transformation.”
The report from the Ministry of Education indicates that Odisha excelled in the 'access' domain, achieving the highest grade with a score between 941-1000.
The PGI evaluates school education across two categories: Outcomes and Governance and Management, utilizing 73 indicators.
