Odisha's Chief Minister Boosts Support for Lawyers with Significant Financial Aid Increase
Major Financial Support for Advocates in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance the welfare of the legal community, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has sanctioned a 40% rise in the financial aid allocated to advocates from the State Advocates’ Welfare Fund.
This financial support is available to lawyers upon their retirement and extends to their families in the unfortunate event of their passing. The increased assistance is anticipated to benefit numerous practicing lawyers operating in courts throughout Odisha.
As per the Chief Minister's Office, the last adjustment to the welfare assistance for advocates occurred in 2021. This recent decision is designed to bolster the social security framework for legal professionals and their families.
Under the updated scheme, advocates with a practice duration of up to five years will qualify for a financial aid of Rs 1.05 lakh in case of death, which will be disbursed to their closest family member.
The amount of assistance will progressively rise with each additional year of legal practice. These benefits will be accessible in both retirement and death scenarios.
For advocates who have served for 30 years, the maximum financial aid of Rs 6.30 lakh will be available upon retirement. In the case of their death, the same sum will be granted to their nearest family member.
