Odisha's Bold Move: Merging Class X and XII Boards for Streamlined Education

A New Era for Education in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is currently developing a proposal aimed at consolidating the Class X and XII examinations by merging the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) with the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), as stated by N Tirumala Nayak, the Secretary of School and Mass Education, on Monday.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has instructed the department to pursue the creation of a unified board for both educational levels. To support this initiative, the government is drafting legislation that will enable the merger, Nayak mentioned.

This new structure is anticipated to mirror the model of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which oversees examinations for both Class X and XII.

Importantly, the examination format will remain unchanged under this new system. The focus is solely on integrating the existing BSE and CHSE into a single board.

As of now, the government has not provided a specific timeline for when this proposed system will be implemented.
