Odisha's Bold Move: 44,000 New Teachers to Transform Primary Education

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Thursday that the Odisha government plans to recruit over 44,000 teachers for primary schools within the next three years.
Approximately 40,000 of these positions will be newly established, reflecting the government's commitment to enhancing the quality of primary education across the state.
Majhi also revealed that the government intends to regularize the employment of teachers currently working on an ad hoc basis under various schemes.
According to a release from the Chief Minister's Office, "The chief minister has instructed that 44,433 positions be filled over the next three years, with around 15,000 primary teacher roles to be filled annually."
Additionally, Majhi has mandated that free textbooks be provided to students in Class 9 and Class 10, complementing the existing provision of free textbooks for students from Class 1 to Class 8.
The authorities have also been directed to appoint Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) for students residing in hostels.
