Odisha Villages Plunged into Darkness After Transformers Stolen in Bold Heist
Theft of Transformers Causes Outrage in Mayurbhanj
In Baisinga, two electric transformers, each rated at 16 kV, were stolen from the villages of Hatipatuka and Patlipura late on Monday night, resulting in significant power outages and public discontent.
Reports indicate that the theft occurred near Panchapalli High School in Hatipatuka and close to Patlipura village, both of which fall under the Baisinga police station's jurisdiction. Despite the busy traffic on the main road in Baisinga town, the thieves successfully dismantled and removed the equipment without being detected.
An FIR has been lodged at the Baisinga police station, prompting an investigation. IIC Barini Das stated, "We have registered a case and initiated a probe."

The theft has led to a total power outage in the affected areas, leaving residents in darkness. Locals voiced their frustration, highlighting that they continue to pay their electricity bills punctually.
Prashant Nayak, an engineer from Tata Power, mentioned that efforts are being made to restore power. "We are working to install new transformers in the two villages by tonight," he confirmed.
