Odisha Schools Shine Bright: 10 Institutions Honored in National SHVR Awards!
Significant Recognition for Odisha's Educational Institutions
Bhubaneswar: In a remarkable milestone for the education sector, ten schools from Odisha have been honored with national recognition under the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) program for the 2025-26 cycle, following a thorough evaluation at the national level.
According to official reports, out of the 20 schools nominated from the state for this national assessment, half have achieved recognition for their exceptional contributions.
These schools were acknowledged for their outstanding initiatives in enhancing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) facilities and fostering eco-friendly practices within their campuses. The School and Mass Education department highlighted that this recognition is part of the SHVR initiative, a groundbreaking national program aimed at promoting safe, sustainable, and child-friendly educational environments throughout the country.
The SHVR framework assesses schools based on various critical criteria, such as hygiene and sanitation standards, availability of safe drinking water, biodiversity and greenery, waste management practices, and climate-resilient strategies. The goal of this initiative is to motivate schools to embrace environmentally responsible methods while safeguarding the health and well-being of students.
Officials noted that this achievement showcases the collective dedication of teachers, students, school management committees, and local communities in integrating sustainability into daily school operations.
This recognition further solidifies Odisha's reputation as a frontrunner in advocating for environmental responsibility and climate resilience within the education sector.
On a national scale, 191 schools from 29 states and union territories have been awarded under the SHVR 2025-26 program. Each winning school will receive a cash prize of ₹1 lakh, a certificate of recognition, and the chance to participate in a three-day exposure visit to a selected state to share and learn best practices.
