Odisha Police Sub-Inspector Arrested for Accepting Bribe: What Happened?


Nayagarh: A sub-inspector from the Odisha Police has been apprehended by vigilance officials for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 to register a case, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.


The officer, named Rajesh Kumar Srichandan, was stationed at the Sarankul police station in Nayagarh district.


Following a complaint, a sting operation was executed, leading to the arrest of the accused officer by the Vigilance team right outside the Sarankul police station on Tuesday.


The full amount of the bribe was recovered from Srichandan's possession and was seized in front of witnesses, as stated in the release.


He has been presented in court after being caught in the act of demanding and accepting the bribe.


Subsequently, simultaneous searches were carried out at Srichandan's residence in Bhubaneswar and his office. A case has been filed under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.


Srichandan joined the police force as a sub-inspector in 2017 and has served in various police stations across Nayagarh district.
