Odisha Police Rescues Over 17,000 Missing Women and Children in Six Months

Significant Recovery of Missing Individuals in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, August 2 - The Odisha police have successfully located 17,590 missing women and children between January and June of this year, reuniting them with their families, as reported in an official statement on Sunday.

The statement revealed that among those found, there were 12,177 women and 5,413 children. Notably, the highest number of recoveries came from Puri district, where 3,713 women were located. Following Puri, Jajpur district reported 820 recoveries, and Ganjam district accounted for 581 women.

In terms of children, Puri district again led with 1,161 recoveries. Additionally, the Bhubaneswar urban police district recovered 399 children, while Mayurbhanj district saw 278 children found. During this six-month period, reports indicated that 10,605 women and 4,873 children were reported missing across various police stations in the state. Among the missing children, there were 4,334 girls, 538 boys, and one transgender individual.

A police official stated, “Many women and children recovered during this time had previously been reported missing. Furthermore, some individuals were found who had not been reported missing at all.” He emphasized that the Odisha police prioritize the safety of women and children, which is why this special operation will be intensified in the coming days.
