Police Inspector Faces Suspension After Bribery Charges

The Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha, Y.B. Khurania, has suspended a police inspector who was arrested on bribery charges just a day earlier. This information was confirmed by an official.


The inspector was apprehended by the vigilance department for allegedly accepting a bribe.


According to an order from the state police headquarters, Bijay Kumar Barik, the officer in charge of the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) police station in Cuttack, has been suspended as disciplinary proceedings are being considered against him. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Barik.


The order states, 'As long as this order is in effect, Barik will remain under the disciplinary control of the Commissioner of Police in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. He will receive a salary in accordance with the Odisha Service Code.'


Vigilance officials arrested Barik while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor in exchange for allowing smooth business operations.


After recovering the bribe amount, vigilance officials also conducted searches at two of Barik's locations, seizing approximately ₹500,000 in cash from his government residence located in Unit-1, Bhubaneswar.
