Governor's Call for Environmental Action

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has called on residents to adopt green energy solutions. During a press briefing at Raj Bhavan, he stressed the need to shift from conventional energy sources to renewable options to combat pollution and conserve foreign exchange by minimizing crude oil imports.

Since assuming office, the Governor has spearheaded a major overhaul of Raj Bhavan's energy framework. A solar power facility generating 150 kilowatts is currently operational, with plans for an additional 400 kilowatt installation underway.

This initiative is a crucial step in transforming the Governor's residence into a net-zero energy facility. To further this green agenda, a fleet of domestically manufactured electric vehicles has been introduced, encompassing both official cars and two-wheelers, marking a significant advancement in sustainable transportation.

"Every journey now contributes to a quieter, cleaner, and more responsible future. It’s not merely a choice; it’s the direction we are committed to taking," the Governor remarked, emphasizing the critical need for eco-friendly practices.

Through this groundbreaking initiative, Raj Bhavan is setting a benchmark for government entities nationwide, conveying that the commitment to sustainability must start from the top. In discussions with the media, the Governor also acknowledged key federal programs aimed at promoting renewable energy. He commended the state government for offering additional subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which he believes will motivate more individuals to embrace solar energy.

He encouraged citizens throughout the state to leverage such programs and transition to renewable energy sources, not only for their own benefit but for the collective welfare of the environment.

Additionally, he urged the public to gradually move away from petrol and diesel vehicles in favor of electric alternatives, underscoring that this shift is vital for reducing pollution, decreasing reliance on fossil fuels, and fostering a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Moreover, he pointed out that charging electric vehicles using rooftop solar panels facilitates genuinely green transportation by removing the need for fossil fuels. "This also significantly lowers travel costs," he added. He stated, "Now is the moment to act. These initiatives aim to empower individuals and create a better, sustainable future for generations to come."

The Governor also requested the media to actively participate in raising awareness about renewable energy. Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who attended the event, praised the green initiatives at Raj Bhavan and highlighted various measures taken by the state government to advance renewable energy.

He stressed the necessity of public involvement in positioning Odisha as a frontrunner in sustainable development. Energy Department Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev provided comprehensive details about the ongoing government schemes and subsidy frameworks designed to expedite the adoption of renewable energy across Odisha.

Principal Secretary to the Governor NBS Rajput, along with other senior officials from Raj Bhavan, were also present at the event.
