On Saturday, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared a financial allocation of ₹15 crore dedicated to enhancing the Sambalpur Football Academy. This initiative underscores the state government's dedication to bolstering grassroots football and establishing top-tier training facilities for emerging players.
Groundbreaking Initiatives
During his visit to the academy, the Chief Minister, alongside Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra, took part in sowing grass seeds, a step towards creating a premier football ground for local aspiring athletes.
Plans for Advanced Infrastructure
The ambitious development plan includes the construction of three FIFA-standard football pitches and two state-of-the-art futsal courts. These facilities are designed to offer advanced training and exposure to young footballers, enabling them to compete at elevated levels.
A Legacy of Talent Development
In a media briefing, Majhi emphasized the academy's significant role in Odisha's sports scene and its commitment to nurturing football talent for nearly twenty years. "The Sambalpur Football Academy is a cornerstone of Odisha's sports landscape. Established as a branch of the Sambalpur Sporting Club under the guidance of our MLA Jayanarayan Mishra Ji, it has evolved into a premier platform for providing national-level exposure to talented players. Over the last 19 years, the academy has produced numerous athletes who have proudly represented Odisha at the national level across various categories. Its success is rooted in a robust sporting foundation and exceptional coaching," Majhi stated.
Vision for the Future and Ongoing Support
The Chief Minister also announced the organization of the annual CM Trophy Football Tournament and the identification of promising footballers under the age of 14 for specialized training at the academy. Majhi reiterated the government's long-term vision to elevate the Sambalpur Football Academy into a world-class sports institution, aiming to provide enhanced opportunities for young athletes, especially those from rural backgrounds. He assured that the Odisha Government will persist in supporting initiatives that strengthen the state's sports ecosystem and cultivate footballers capable of excelling on both national and international stages.
