Severe Heatwave Hits Odisha


On Saturday, Odisha experienced extreme heat, with 16 locations reporting temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius, according to officials. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that these heatwave conditions are expected to persist until May 14.


The capital city, Bhubaneswar, recorded a temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, marking the first instance this summer that temperatures have surpassed the 40-degree threshold. Sambalpur, located in the western region of the state, was noted as the hottest area, reaching 42.7 degrees Celsius.


Following Sambalpur, Hirakud recorded a temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius, while Jharsuguda was close behind at 41.6 degrees Celsius.
