Odisha Marks National Sports Day Despite Adverse Weather

The Odisha Minister for Sports and Youth Services, Suryabanshi Suraj, took part in the 'Sundays on Cycle' event as part of the National Sports Day festivities. In a statement, Suraj emphasized that the event signified the end of a three-day celebration dedicated to sports and showcased the state's dedication to fitness, even in challenging weather conditions.


A Nationwide Fitness Movement

'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' was initiated by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024. This initiative is organized by the Sports Authority of India in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, along with various cycling and fitness organizations. The cycling event is held simultaneously across all states and union territories, including SAI Regional Centres and Khelo India Centres.


Union Minister Celebrates Cycling's Popularity

In Delhi, Union Sports Minister Mandaviya announced the launch of the 88th edition of 'Sundays on Cycle' at over 25,000 locations nationwide, highlighting the increasing enthusiasm for cycling. He remarked, 'The passion for cycling is on the rise in our country. Cycling is not only an excellent form of exercise but also a remedy for pollution and traffic issues.'


Mandaviya encouraged young people to disconnect from their devices for at least an hour each day and engage in outdoor activities, stating, 'Let our youth spend time away from screens and enjoy cycling and playing outdoors to maintain their fitness.'
