Jaipur, August 6 - The Rajasthan State Other Backward Classes (OBC) Commission has officially submitted its report to the government regarding OBC reservation in local bodies and urban municipalities. This development removes a significant hurdle for the upcoming local body and panchayat elections in Rajasthan.

On Wednesday, the chairman of the OBC Commission, Madanlal Bhati, along with other members, met with Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to present their findings.

Lottery Process for OBC Reservation

Following the receipt of this report, a lottery will be conducted to determine OBC reservation in local bodies and urban municipalities. The allocation of wards for OBC reservation will be based on the recommendations made by the commission. The state government is preparing to conduct this lottery in the coming days.

Election Schedule Announcement

The State Election Commission will announce the schedule for local body elections after the lottery process for reservations is completed. The commission has informed the Rajasthan High Court about this potential timeline. It is noteworthy that the High Court had expressed dissatisfaction over the delays in conducting municipal and panchayat elections, directing the OBC Commission to submit its report by August 5.

Commitment to Strengthening Democracy

In compliance with the court's directives, the commission submitted its report to the government on Wednesday. During this occasion, Chief Minister Sharma reiterated the state government's commitment to strengthening grassroots democracy. He stated, “We are making rapid progress towards fulfilling our promise to conduct local elections on time.” He also mentioned that the 'One State-One Election' system would ensure continuous momentum in development and welfare activities, leading to savings in money, time, and resources.
