Significant Drug Trafficking Operation in Nurpur

In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Nurpur Police successfully confiscated 428 grams of opium and apprehended a suspect during an initiative led by the Thakurdwara Police Post under the jurisdiction of Indora Police Station.


On July 9, 2026, while conducting routine patrols and anti-narcotics operations at Malkana Chowk, the police received intelligence regarding Sumit Thakur, a local from Malkana village, who was reportedly involved in the opium trade and was transporting the illegal substance on his motorcycle (HP97B-3331). Acting promptly, the police team executed a raid at the water supply site in Mand Ghandran village. The motorcycle was searched in the presence of two independent witnesses, following standard procedures.


The search resulted in the discovery of 428 grams of opium hidden within the motorcycle's fuse box. Both the illegal substance and the motorcycle were seized immediately.


A case has been filed at Indora Police Station under FIR No. 105/2026 dated 09.07.2026, invoking Section 15 of the NDPS Act.


Details of the Arrested Individual:



  • Sumit Thakur (31), son of Narendra Singh, residing in Village Malkana, Post Office Paral, Tehsil Indora, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.


The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation to identify the origin of the seized opium and to ascertain if the accused has connections to a larger drug trafficking operation. Authorities have pledged that if any additional involvement of other parties is uncovered, stringent legal measures will be enforced.
