Introduction to the Shotgun Referee Course

On Thursday, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) initiated its specialized Shotgun Referee Course, which will take place from June 25 to June 28. This four-day program has gathered 14 carefully chosen participants from various regions of the country, showcasing the NRAI's dedication to improving the technical officiating framework within Indian shooting sports.

Expert Instruction and Course Structure

The course is being led by Amar Jang Singh, a member of the ISSF Shotgun Committee, alongside Mehul Patel, a senior official from the NRAI. Participants will engage in a well-structured curriculum that includes both theoretical and practical components, focusing on international shotgun competition regulations, officiating methods, advanced range management, and the evolving roles of referees in national competitions.

NRAI President's Vision for Officiating

Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, the NRAI President, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "As Indian shooting gains prominence on the global stage, our technical expertise off the field must reflect the high standards our athletes demonstrate. Enhancing our domestic officiating framework is as crucial as developing grassroots talent. This course is integral to our strategy to cultivate a world-class pool of certified officials, ensuring our domestic events are conducted with precision, integrity, and adherence to global standards."

Importance of Technical Officials

The course was inaugurated by Pawankumar Singh, the NRAI Secretary General, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the essential role of technical officials in the sport's sustainable growth. He remarked, "The success and credibility of any shooting event rely heavily on the skill and professionalism of its technical officials. With the rapid growth of shotgun shooting in India and a busy domestic schedule, there is an urgent need for well-trained referees. The NRAI is committed to nurturing this talent pool, supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ). I believe the knowledge gained during these four days will significantly enhance the standards of our national tournaments."

Assessment and Development Approach

Throughout the next four days, participants will face rigorous practical assessments and theoretical tests designed to evaluate their officiating skills before they are assigned to upcoming national and international events. This initiative underscores the NRAI's comprehensive strategy to invest in the education and development of coaches, technical officials, and athletes, aiming to sustainably uplift the shooting sports ecosystem in India.
