Over 100,000 Fans Welcome Norway's World Cup Heroes

In a remarkable display of support, over 100,000 fans gathered in Oslo on Monday to celebrate the national football team's return after their impressive journey in the FIFA World Cup 2026, despite their quarterfinal exit.

Norway's remarkable campaign concluded with a 2-1 defeat against England in extra time on Saturday, preventing them from advancing to the semifinals. Nevertheless, the team's achievements ignited nationwide festivities as fans flocked to honor the players.

A Royal Reception and City-Wide Parade

Upon their arrival in Oslo, the team was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute, followed by a victory parade through the city. Large crowds gathered near the Royal Palace and along Karl Johans gate, the main street in Oslo, to welcome the team.

The players had the honor of meeting King Harald during a reception at the Royal Palace, where they later appeared on the palace steps to acknowledge the enthusiastic supporters.

The celebrations culminated with the players joining fans in a spirited 'Viking row' chant, led by Crown Prince Haakon on the drums, while the Royal Guard stood proudly behind the squad.

Haaland's Early Exit and Unique Souvenir

Notably, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland did not participate in the final celebrations, having left the event early. Consequently, he missed the opportunity to join his teammates on the palace steps for the closing ceremony.

Earlier, Haaland returned to Norway and shared a humorous post on social media featuring a unique souvenir. He posted a picture of himself with the caption, 'It followed me home,' referring to the item he brought back after Norway's exit from the tournament.

As one of the most prominent figures in global football, Haaland played a crucial role in Norway's historic journey to the World Cup quarterfinals. Despite the team's exit at this stage, their performance has been celebrated as one of the best in the nation's World Cup history, earning them widespread acclaim and a warm welcome from fans upon their return.
