Introduction to the Norton 450 Urban

New Delhi. The British motorcycle manufacturer Norton has introduced its latest model, the Norton 450 Urban, at EICMA 2026. This motorcycle is part of the company's new generation lineup and features a 454cc engine. It will be available in two distinct variants, differing in design and exterior aesthetics, while sharing the same engine and technical specifications.

Return to Single-Cylinder Motorcycles

With the launch of this bike, Norton marks its return to the single-cylinder motorcycle segment after a significant hiatus. The company envisions this model as an entry-level offering for its premium motorcycle brand, designed for riders seeking a lightweight bike that delivers robust performance and modern features. According to the company, this will not merely be an entry-level motorcycle but a new gateway into the world of Norton bikes.

Engine Specifications and Performance

Both variants of the Norton 450 Urban are equipped with a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 454cc engine. This engine generates a maximum power of 47 BHP at 8,000 RPM and peak torque of 45 Nm at 6,000 RPM. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, featuring a quickshifter that allows for seamless gear changes without using the clutch. The engine is designed to provide good torque at lower RPMs while ensuring smooth power delivery as speed increases.

Weight and Fuel Capacity

The targeted curb weight for the motorcycle is set to be under 180 kilograms, and it will come with a 12-liter fuel tank. Its power and technical features also align with the A2 motorcycle license regulations in Europe.

Chassis and Suspension Features

The Norton 450 Urban is built on an aluminum frame, which the company highlights as one of its key features. For suspension, it includes fully adjustable 43mm KYB upside-down forks at the front and a KYB monoshock at the rear, allowing for rebound and preload adjustments as needed.

Braking System

The braking system consists of a 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear, complemented by a ByBre braking system with cornering ABS. Both variants will feature 17-inch cast alloy wheels fitted with tires suitable for road use.

Distinct Designs for Each Variant

The most notable difference between the two variants of the Norton 450 Urban lies in their design and external embellishments. The standard variant will feature silver wheels and a silver frame, designed for a clean and practical look suitable for everyday road use. In contrast, the second variant will showcase a scrambler style with black wheels, a gray frame, and swingarm, along with larger fenders, handguards, fork protectors, and a flyscreen. The seat design and finish will also differ from the standard variant.

Modern Technology and Features

Norton has integrated several modern electronic features into the new 450 Urban, including three riding modes, traction control, cruise control, and cornering ABS. For enhanced visibility, it comes with dynamic LED headlights. Additional features include a keyless ignition system, smartphone connectivity, heated grips, and an 8-inch TFT touchscreen. It also offers a USB-C charging port and a tire pressure monitoring system, with adjustable brake and clutch levers for rider comfort. A low seat height option will also be available.

Expected Launch in India

Norton has yet to disclose the pricing and launch dates for the Norton 450 Urban in various countries. However, it is anticipated that after its international debut, the motorcycle could be introduced in the Indian market in the second half of 2027. This unveiling comes nearly a year after Norton’s restructuring and new beginning strategy, following its acquisition by TVS Motor Company in 2020, which involved over £200 million in investments to strengthen manufacturing capabilities, workforce, and international sales networks.

Expansion of Norton’s Motorcycle Lineup

At EICMA 2026, Norton also showcased production versions of the Manx R, Manx, Atlas, and Atlas GT alongside the 450 Urban. The addition of the 450 Urban is expected to expand the company's motorcycle lineup and strengthen its presence in the premium urban motorcycle market.
