Freight Unloading Growth in June

Guwahati, July 8: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), based in Maligaon, has reported a notable increase in freight unloading activities for June.

According to NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the railway zone achieved a remarkable milestone by unloading 1,099 freight-carrying rakes in June 2025, which represents a 17 percent rise from the 939 rakes unloaded in the same month the previous year.

In Assam alone, 627 freight rakes were unloaded, with 315 of those carrying essential goods.

Additionally, the unloading figures included 72 rakes in Tripura, 15 in Nagaland, five in Meghalaya, six in Mizoram, seven in Arunachal Pradesh, and nine in Manipur. In West Bengal and Bihar, 198 and 160 freight rakes were unloaded, respectively, during June under NFR's jurisdiction.

The NFR facilitated the transportation of various goods, including FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oils, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tanks, and more, which were unloaded at different goods sheds across its operational area.

Sharma emphasized that the regular transport of essential and other commodities is crucial not only for fulfilling the needs of the public but also for stimulating local economic activities. The ongoing monitoring at all levels has led to reduced turnaround times and improved unloading efficiency.
