Violent Unrest in Noida Leads to Mass Arrests

Noida: On Tuesday, Gautam Buddh Nagar's Police Commissioner, Laxmi Singh, announced that over 300 individuals have been detained and seven FIRs filed following a violent workers' protest in Noida.

During a press briefing, Singh stated that police have been conducting continuous route marches since early morning to ensure public safety.

"Route marches commenced at 5:00 AM today. Workers assembled at three different sites, and after prompt discussions, they were peacefully dispersed within 15 minutes," she explained.

Singh noted that in the last two days, multiple WhatsApp groups have been formed using QR codes to recruit workers, suggesting the presence of a coordinated network behind the unrest.

"The creation of these WhatsApp groups indicates that a well-organized syndicate is orchestrating these activities," she remarked.

The commissioner confirmed that those responsible for inciting the unrest have been identified and apprehended, with further actions planned.

"We have identified and arrested certain individuals within the crowd who were involved in these disturbances; additional arrests will follow. We will also investigate their funding sources, and if any financial support from outside the state or country is found, appropriate measures will be taken," she added.

In relation to incidents reported from various locations on Monday, Singh mentioned that seven FIRs have been registered and over 300 individuals have been taken into custody.

"We anticipate more arrests in the upcoming days," she stated.

Regarding efforts to de-escalate the situation, Singh highlighted that a committee formed by the state government has been engaging with various stakeholders.

"The High-Powered Committee, which has been active since yesterday, has conducted extensive meetings with all parties involved and has developed several recommendations. These will be disclosed during a press conference scheduled for 11:30 AM today," she noted.

Singh emphasized the government's commitment to addressing the concerns of the workers, stating, "The Uttar Pradesh Government is aware of the workers' grievances, empathizes with their situation, and is dedicated to resolving their issues."
