Noida International Airport: A New Era of Connectivity and Growth

Inauguration of Noida International Airport

New Delhi/Noida, March 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Phase-1 of the Noida International Airport this Saturday, a development poised to enhance connectivity and simplify travel within the Delhi-NCR region while also stimulating economic growth in the area.

This significant infrastructure initiative, with an estimated investment of Rs 11,200 crore, is managed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in collaboration with both the central and state governments.

Situated strategically along the Yamuna Expressway, this airport is the second civil airport in the National Capital Region (NCR) and ranks among the most important greenfield infrastructure projects in India.

Having received its aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in March 2026, the airport is equipped for "all-weather operations," confirming that essential systems such as the Instrument Landing System (ILS), navigation aids, runway lighting, and air traffic control are operational to facilitate aircraft movements even in low visibility conditions prevalent in the Delhi-NCR area.

Initially, the airport will accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually, with the potential to expand capacity to 7 crore passengers in the coming years.

The first phase includes a 3,900-meter runway designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft. The single runway at Jewar is fitted with ILS at both ends, allowing aircraft to land from either direction based on wind conditions.

This runway is complemented by an aeronautical ground lighting system, which includes approach and runway lighting, working in tandem with ILS to support operations during low visibility and nighttime.

Additionally, Noida International Airport will be the first in India to feature an in-house Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, with a cargo capacity designed to manage over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually.

As a vital international gateway for the NCR, the airport is anticipated to improve both domestic and international connectivity while bolstering the nation’s aviation infrastructure.

Strategically positioned along the Yamuna Expressway, Noida International Airport is envisioned as a multi-modal transport hub, ensuring seamless integration with road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems for efficient passenger and cargo connectivity.
