Current LPG Supply Status in India

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized on Thursday that there is currently no LPG distributor in the country facing a supply shortage, with domestic supply and cylinder distribution continuing as scheduled. During an inter-ministerial briefing regarding recent developments in West Asia, Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma stated that while the overall regional situation remains concerning, services for domestic consumers are stable and uninterrupted.

Sharma reiterated that while the situation regarding LPG is still worrisome, no distributor is currently experiencing shortages. The supply and distribution of LPG for all domestic consumers are proceeding normally. The ministry also highlighted significant advancements in digital transformations, noting that nearly 94% of cylinder bookings are now made online, and the delivery authentication code system has proven effective in 76% of cases.

Regarding commercial operations, Sharma mentioned that supply was initially completely halted but has now been partially restored. She noted that allocation orders have been issued by approximately 17 state governments, ensuring that all states and union territories receive commercial LPG supplies. To further stabilize the market, the central government has proposed an additional 10% of commercial LPG and urged state governments to assist in expanding the PNG network. As a result of these initiatives, around 125,000 new domestic, commercial, and industrial connections have been established in the past two weeks.
