Nitish Kumar's Transition: From Long-Serving CM to Rajya Sabha Candidate
A New Chapter for Nitish Kumar
Patna: On Thursday, JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar declared his candidacy for the Rajya Sabha elections, marking the end of his remarkable tenure as Bihar's longest-serving Chief Minister.
Having held the CM position since 2005, Kumar expressed his commitment to support the new government that will emerge in the state.
He stated, "For over twenty years, your unwavering trust and support have empowered us to serve Bihar with utmost dedication. It is this trust that has allowed Bihar to achieve new heights in development and dignity," showing appreciation for the citizens of Bihar.
Kumar also shared his long-standing ambition to serve in both Houses of the Bihar legislature and both Houses of Parliament.
He remarked, "In line with this goal, I aim to secure a seat in the Rajya Sabha during this election period."
Kumar reassured the public, saying, "I promise that my relationship with you will persist, and my determination to collaborate for a prosperous Bihar will remain strong. The new government will receive my full support and guidance."
As Kumar steps down after leading the NDA to a significant victory in the 2025 assembly elections, a BJP leader is anticipated to assume the chief minister role.
If this occurs, Bihar will witness its first BJP chief minister, a notable milestone for the party in the Hindi heartland.
The elections for five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar are scheduled for March 16, with today being the final day for nomination submissions.
Given the current composition of the state legislature, Kumar's election to the Upper House appears highly likely.
