Nitish Kumar Sets His Sights on National Politics: JD(U) Presidency Awaits
Nitish Kumar's Nomination for JD(U) Presidency
New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, has officially submitted his nomination to become the president of the Janata Dal (United) as he gears up to re-enter the national political arena with his upcoming election to the Rajya Sabha.
Sanjay Kumar Jha, the national working president of JD(U), presented Kumar's nomination at the party's central office on Thursday. Jha is among those who have proposed Kumar's candidacy.
Interestingly, Kumar did not travel to Delhi for the nomination process.
According to party insiders, it appears that Kumar will be elected unopposed, as there seems to be little chance of any other candidates stepping forward to contest.
JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad mentioned that the deadline for submitting nominations is March 22, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until March 24.
He also noted that the scrutiny of candidate documents is scheduled for March 23.
"If any other candidates submit their nominations, the vote counting will occur on March 27. As of now, only Nitish Kumar's nomination has been filed," he stated.
Kumar is taking the helm of JD(U) in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, following Rajiv Ranjan Singh's resignation from the party presidency in December 2023.
