Nitish Kumar's Uncontested Election as JD(U) President

On March 24, it was announced in New Delhi that Nitish Kumar has been unanimously re-elected as the president of the Janata Dal (United) since no other candidates submitted nominations for the position. During a press conference, JD(U) leader Anil Hegde outlined the election timeline, stating that the deadline for nominations was March 22, the scrutiny of nomination papers took place on March 23, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations was set for 11 AM on March 24. With only Nitish Kumar's nomination received, he was declared elected unopposed.

Hegde reiterated that the nomination deadline was March 22, with the verification of papers occurring on March 23, and the final withdrawal deadline at 11 AM today. Since only one nomination was submitted – that of the current president, Nitish Kumar – I hereby declare him the national president of the party. JD(U) executive president Sanjay Jha praised Kumar's leadership, attributing the party's foundation to his dedication. Jha noted that the party originated in 1994 with the formation of the Samata Party when Jharkhand and Bihar were a single state.

Jha told reporters that the party was built through Nitish Kumar's hard work and commitment. When the party was established, Jharkhand and Bihar were united. The journey began with the formation of the Samata Party in 1994, and now, in 2026, we reflect on nearly 32 years of significant progress. Especially now, as we are in Delhi, it is noteworthy that previously, people from Bihar living in other parts of India and abroad often felt inferior. There was little belief that Bihar could transform.

He credited Nitish Kumar's tenure with the National Democratic Alliance for ushering in a new era of development. Central minister and JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh stated that the party was founded by Nitish Kumar, who has elevated it to great heights. If he is elected unopposed as the national president, what is so surprising about that? Nitish Kumar is our universally accepted leader.
