Nitin Nabin Takes Charge as BJP National President Amidst Prominent Leaders
Nitin Nabin's Inauguration as BJP National President
On Tuesday, Nitin Nabin officially assumed the role of National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). At 45 years old, he succeeds JP Nadda, who currently serves as a Union Minister. The ceremony took place at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, attended by notable leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, among others.
Religious Visits Before Taking Office
Prior to his inauguration, Nabin visited several renowned temples in Delhi, including the Jhandewalan Temple, Valmiki Temple, and the Hanuman Temple located in Connaught Place. He also paid his respects at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. Accompanying him during these visits were Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma. Sources from the Home Ministry revealed that Nabin has been granted Z-category security, which includes commandos from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
A Young Leader's Rise
At the age of 45, Nabin has become the youngest leader to hold such a significant organizational position within the party, indicating a clear generational shift in the BJP's leadership structure. Born in Ranchi, he is the son of the late BJP leader and former MLA Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. His political upbringing was influenced by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which provided him with early insights into the BJP's organizational and ideological framework. Within the party, he is recognized as a leader with a strong ideological foundation, having been trained by the RSS. He is married to Deepmala Srivastava and has a son and a daughter.
Electoral Success and Organizational Roles
Nabin is known for his significant electoral victories, beginning with a by-election in 2006, where he won by nearly 60,000 votes. Since then, he has consistently won elections by large margins. In his most recent victory during the assembly elections last year, he secured over 51,000 votes, solidifying his reputation as a reliable electoral candidate in a competitive urban constituency. Nabin has held various organizational roles within the BJP, including serving as the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and as the State President of BJYM in Bihar.
Rapid Rise in Party Ranks
Following his appointment as co-in-charge of the party's campaign for the Chhattisgarh assembly elections in November 2023, Nabin's prominence within the BJP grew beyond Bihar. The party achieved a decisive victory against the Congress government led by then Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. The organizational strategy adopted in Chhattisgarh was praised by the BJP's central leadership, significantly enhancing Nabin's standing within the party. This same organizational framework was utilized for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In Chhattisgarh, the BJP won 10 out of 11 parliamentary seats, further establishing Nabin's credentials as an effective organizer capable of delivering results not only in his home state but also in others.
Transition to National Leadership
Before his national promotion, Nabin was responsible for the ministries of Road Construction and Urban Development in the Bihar government led by Nitish Kumar. After being appointed as the party's working president, he resigned from the state cabinet, signaling a shift from administrative responsibilities to full-time organizational leadership. His formal election as BJP President occurred on Monday when he emerged as the sole candidate in the party's organizational elections. According to a statement from the BJP's central election authority, Nabin was elected unopposed. His candidacy was proposed by several prominent figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JP Nadda, and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, reflecting strong leadership support for his promotion.
