Nitin Nabeen Set to Become BJP's National President Unopposed
Nitin Nabeen's Unopposed Election as BJP National President
On Monday, Nitin Nabeen, the acting president of the BJP, is poised to be elected unopposed as the party's national president, following the conclusion of the nomination withdrawal process. According to Dr. K. Lakshman, the national returning officer for the BJP organization festival, only Nitin Nabeen's name was proposed for the national president position after the withdrawal period ended. The party confirmed that 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in his favor, with no other candidates proposed for the role.
In a press release, Lakshman stated that after the withdrawal period, he announces that only one name, that of Nitin Nabeen, has been proposed for the position of national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Nabeen, aged 45, was appointed as the national executive president of the BJP on December 14, 2025, making him the youngest individual to assume the role of national president. He will succeed senior leader JP Nadda as the party's 12th national president. His candidacy has received backing from top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
The power transfer is scheduled for January 20, 2026, at 11:30 AM, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Nabeen, the son of the late BJP leader and former MLA Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha, has served as an MLA from the Bankipur constituency in Bihar and has been a minister in the state government twice. Known for his strong organizational ties to the RSS, he is viewed as a leader with robust ideological credentials within the party, symbolizing a generational shift in the BJP's top leadership.
Recognized for his solid grassroots support, Nabeen has won the Bankipur seat in consecutive assembly elections (2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025), as well as in a by-election in 2006. In the recent Bihar assembly elections, he triumphed over his nearest rival by a margin of over 51,000 votes. Nabeen previously held the Ministry of Road Construction and Urban Development in the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government but resigned after being appointed as the acting president of the BJP.
