NIT Rourkela Achieves New Heights in Asia University Rankings


Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Rourkela has made significant strides, now ranking 186th in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings for 2026. This marks an improvement from its previous position of 191st last year, solidifying its reputation among Asia's top educational institutions.


The rankings evaluated a total of 929 universities from 36 different countries and regions. Within India, NIT Rourkela secured the eighth position, making it the highest-ranked NIT in the country and the only one to break into the top 200 this year. Director K Umamaheshwar Rao expressed that this advancement is a testament to the institute's commitment to academic excellence, impactful research, and international collaboration.


He acknowledged the efforts of the accreditation and ranking team in achieving this milestone, emphasizing that it will motivate further initiatives to enhance research partnerships and the overall academic environment.
