NIT Rourkela Shines at Annual Quantum Conclave 2026: A Leap in Quantum Education
NIT Rourkela Earns National Recognition
Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Rourkela has achieved significant recognition at the Annual Quantum Conclave 2026 for its contributions to quantum education.
This accolade was awarded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India after a thorough evaluation of the institute’s Minor Degree in Quantum Technology. The committee praised both the curriculum and a proposal to create an undergraduate quantum technology lab as part of the National Quantum Mission.
The award was presented during the conclave, which took place at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay on April 10-11, with Prof JP Kar accepting the honor on behalf of NIT Rourkela.
The Minor Degree program is a collaborative effort between the Departments of Physics & Astronomy and Computer Science & Engineering, reflecting an interdisciplinary strategy towards emerging technologies.
NIT Rourkela is one of 23 institutions chosen across the country to establish quantum teaching laboratories under the National Quantum Mission. This initiative aims to equip students with both advanced theoretical insights and practical experience in quantum science, ensuring that education meets future technological needs.
The conclave served as a platform for scientists, policymakers, startups, and academic leaders, showcasing India's increasing commitment to advancing quantum technologies.
