Nishu's Victory in the 53kg Category

Wrestler Nishu claimed victory in the 53kg category during the national selection trials, paving the way for a decisive trial against Antim Panghal, who is set to compete in the Asian Games. This event took place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, where Nishu triumphed over Thishka in a highly competitive final, as reported by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).


Upcoming Final Trial

The upcoming trial between Nishu and Antim will determine who represents India in the 53kg category at the Senior World Wrestling Championships, scheduled to occur in Astana, Kazakhstan from October 24 to November 1.


WFI Selection Policy

According to the WFI's selection guidelines, winners from Monday's trials are granted the opportunity to compete against the Asian Games participants in a final trial for the Senior World Championships spots. The date for this final trial will be announced later, along with trials for four non-Olympic weight classes.


Other Notable Winners

Kajal, a two-time U20 World Champion, continued her strong performance by securing the top position in the 76kg category after defeating Siksha in the final.


Simran showcased her skills to win the 57kg title, narrowly defeating Swati Shinde, while Neelam emerged victorious over Ankush in the 50kg final.


In other categories, Tapsya claimed the 62kg division by overcoming Anjali, and Srishti won the 68kg category after besting Bipasha.


WFI President's Remarks

Sanjay Singh, President of the WFI, commented on the trials, noting the impressive level of competition that highlights the increasing depth in Indian women's wrestling. He stated, "The quality and intensity of the bouts today were encouraging. The wrestlers fought with tremendous determination and showed that there is considerable depth across the weight categories. I congratulate all the winners and look forward to seeing them compete for India on the international stage."
