Investigation of IED Explosions Transferred to NIA
Imphal, Jan 6: The investigation into two recent improvised explosive device (IED) blasts in Bishnupur district has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) due to increased security concerns and rising tensions in the region.
On Tuesday, the Manipur Police announced that the case has been referred to the NIA for further inquiry, emphasizing that ongoing efforts are being made to locate and arrest those behind the explosions.
High-ranking police officials, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Superintendent of Police for Bishnupur, have visited the sites of the explosions to evaluate the situation.
Authorities are conducting combing operations in surrounding areas and have heightened security measures at sensitive locations to avert any further incidents.
Police stated, “The situation is being monitored closely to maintain law and order.”
The first explosion took place on Monday morning in an unoccupied house, followed by a second blast in the nearby Saiton Nganukon area, injuring two civilians who have since been hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition.
The dual explosions have sparked renewed unrest in Bishnupur, with local residents protesting and voicing their frustrations over perceived security failures.
Following the blasts, tensions have escalated, leading to clashes and an increased presence of security forces to manage the situation.
The initial blast occurred in a house that had been abandoned due to prior violence in the state, highlighting ongoing security issues in the district.
