NIA Conducts Raids in Mizoram Linked to International Drug Trafficking
NIA's Ongoing Investigation into Drug Trafficking

Aizawl, Aug 13: On Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed searches at five different sites in Mizoram as part of its investigation into a global narcotics trafficking operation. This probe is linked to the confiscation of over six kilograms of methamphetamine from a Myanmar vessel in the Bay of Bengal back in November 2024.
During the operation, authorities seized a total of Rs 43.11 lakh, which included Rs 22.38 lakh from Champhai and Rs 20.73 lakh from Aizawl.
The coordinated raids spanned five locations in Mizoram and eight in Tamil Nadu, all part of the ongoing investigation into the international drug trafficking network.
This case began with the seizure of more than six kilograms of methamphetamine, along with a satellite phone and other items, from a Myanmar boat near Barren Island in the Bay of Bengal in November 2024.
Following this seizure, the Andaman and Nicobar Police initiated a case and detained six Myanmar nationals, who were later chargesheeted on March 27, 2025, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the Foreigners Act, 1946.
The NIA assumed control of the investigation and re-registered the case on August 11, 2025. The suspects are currently held in judicial custody.
The agency indicated that the recent searches aimed to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network and identify other individuals potentially involved in the conspiracy.
Additionally, the investigation seeks to establish links between the seized methamphetamine shipment and broader international drug syndicates.
Ongoing efforts are being made to identify and apprehend more individuals connected to the alleged narcotics trafficking operation.
