NIA Chief Sadanand Date Investigates Pahalgam Terror Attack Site: What We Know

NIA Chief Visits Pahalgam After Terror Attack
In Pahalgam, Sadanand Date, the head of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), conducted an inspection of the site where a terror attack occurred on April 22 at Baisaran, as reported by officials.
During his visit, Date engaged in discussions with senior members of the anti-terror agency who are currently investigating the incident.
The NIA took charge of the case on April 27, following the tragic attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists. The agency has ramped up its efforts to gather evidence and has interviewed numerous eyewitnesses to uncover the details of the terror plot.
In response to the attack, a team from the NIA, led by an inspector general, was dispatched to assist local law enforcement.
Officials noted that NIA teams have established a presence at the attack site, with oversight from an IG, a DIG, and a superintendent of police, as they interview witnesses who observed the horrifying events in the scenic Baisaran valley of Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack specifically targeted male tourists who were enjoying local eateries, pony rides, or picnicking with their families, including young children.
NIA teams, supported by forensic experts, are meticulously searching the area for evidence to reveal the terror conspiracy behind this shocking incident.
Eyewitnesses are being questioned in detail to reconstruct the timeline of events, according to officials.
Separate NIA teams are also traveling across the country to gather information from survivors of the attack, which is believed to have been orchestrated by the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Preliminary investigations suggest that between five to seven terrorists were involved, with assistance from at least two local militants trained in Pakistan.
Security agencies have released sketches of three suspects believed to be connected to the attack, all of whom are reportedly from Pakistan: Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to the capture of these terrorists.
Investigations indicate that the attackers may have used body cameras to document their heinous actions, as reported by eyewitness accounts.
