Major Arrest in Arms Trafficking Investigation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a key suspect involved in the illegal trafficking of weapons and ammunition, which spans various regions in Northern India, starting from Bihar. Officials confirmed the arrest on Wednesday.


According to authorities, Kamalkant Verma, also known as Uncle Ji, a resident of Patna, is the 11th individual to be arrested in this case. The NIA's investigation revealed that Kamalkant played a significant role in a gang that illegally procured ammunition from various firearms factories located in Haryana and other areas.


The agency stated that the trafficking of ammunition occurred in Uttar Pradesh, from where it was distributed to Bihar and other regions across the country. Kamalkant's arrest followed a series of raids conducted by the NIA at 23 locations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana, which resulted in the capture of four additional suspects: Ravi Ranjan, Shashi Prakash, Vijay Kalra, and Kush Kalra. During the raids carried out on December 4, several weapons and ammunition were also seized.
