NHPC Marks Key Milestone in Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project
Significant Progress in Hydropower Project
Itanagar, Dec 29: NHPC Limited has reached a crucial milestone in the commissioning of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) with the initiation of wet commissioning for Unit–3 (250 MW) on Saturday.
This achievement was highlighted by the successful mechanical operation of the generating unit, marking the official start of commissioning activities for the third unit of India's largest hydropower initiative.
“This is a proud moment for NHPC as we commence the wet commissioning of Unit–3 (250 MW) of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project on December 27, following the successful mechanical run of the machine,” stated the hydropower leader.
This development signifies a renewed momentum for NHPC, emphasizing its pivotal role in the hydropower sector and its dedication to enhancing India's clean and renewable energy capabilities.
With Unit–3 now entering the synchronization phase with the national grid, the project is on the verge of achieving full-scale power generation.
Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Power, the Government of India, and the state governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
The CMD praised the leadership of Executive Director and Project Head, Rajendra Prasad, along with the entire Subansiri team for navigating the project through various technical and logistical hurdles. He urged the team to maintain their commitment and focus to ensure the timely and safe commissioning of the remaining units.
Following the successful commissioning of Unit–3, the phased commissioning of the remaining five units, each with a capacity of 250 MW, will proceed as planned.
Once completed, the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (8×250 MW) will be recognized as India's largest hydroelectric power project, significantly contributing to grid stability, lowering carbon emissions, and addressing the increasing energy needs of the country.
